Your Facebook Reels,
Inside the Product Gallery
A free WooCommerce plugin that plays a Facebook video or Reel in the featured image position of any product. Paste a public URL, pick a shape, and the video does the selling. No re-uploading, no video hosting, no extra storage.
Apptimatic Facebook Product Video
Install it the same way as any other WordPress plugin. Free, GPL licensed, and no account or licence key required.
- 1Download the ZIP file - no need to unzip it.
- 2In WordPress go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
- 3Choose the ZIP, click Install Now, then Activate.
Requirements
- WordPress 5.6 or newer
- WooCommerce 5.0 or newer
- PHP 7.2 or newer
- Public Facebook video or Reel URLs
The Content Already Exists
Most stores already film Reels for their Facebook page, then send that traffic to a product page showing three still photos. This closes the gap.
Reuse What You Already Post
The Reels and videos on your Facebook page become product demos. Nothing is re-uploaded, re-encoded, or stored on your own server.
Zero Extra HostingShows the Product Working
A photo shows shape and colour. Fifteen seconds of video shows size, movement, texture and how the thing is actually used.
Buyer ConfidenceLoads Only Where Needed
The script and stylesheet are enqueued exclusively on product pages that actually have a video. Every other page is untouched.
Conditional AssetsWhat Is Inside
One Field, Then It Is Done
The whole workflow is a URL pasted next to the product image. Everything else has a sensible default.
How it works day to day
- Open any product in the WooCommerce editor
- Paste a public Facebook video or Reel URL into the box beside the product image
- Optionally override the aspect ratio just for that product
- Update the product; the video appears in the gallery immediately
- A Video column on the products list shows which items already have one
Mistakes it catches for you
- Non-Facebook URLs are rejected on save instead of rendering an empty grey box
- Reel URLs are detected so vertical videos are not letterboxed into a landscape frame
- Autoplay only applies while muted, matching what browsers actually permit
- Clicking the video no longer opens the theme's image lightbox behind it
- An admin notice explains the silence if WooCommerce is not active
Placement and Shape
Vertical Reels and landscape videos need different frames. The plugin picks the right one, and lets you overrule it.
Gallery Placement
- The video takes the featured image position, the first thing a shopper looks at
- Attaches to the standard WooCommerce product gallery markup
- Keeps the theme's own container sizing rather than forcing a fixed width
- Fullscreen is enabled, so shoppers can expand the video
Aspect Ratio Control
- Auto mode: 9:16 for Reels, 16:9 for regular page videos
- Fixed options for 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 and 4:5
- Set a store-wide default, override it on any individual product
- Applied through a CSS aspect-ratio variable, so the frame stays responsive
Fast on Mobile, Where It Counts
A third-party video player is the heaviest thing on a product page. Click-to-play makes it opt-in per shopper.
Click to Play
- The product photo stays visible with a play button drawn over it
- The Facebook player is only fetched when a shopper actually taps play
- Keeps a heavy third-party embed off the critical path on mobile data
- Play button is a real focusable button with an accessible label
- Respects prefers-reduced-motion for its hover animation
Lean by Design
- Script and stylesheet together are under 4 KB
- Nothing is enqueued on pages without a product video
- No jQuery dependency, no external libraries, no build step
- No images shipped; the play icon is drawn in CSS
Store-Wide Defaults
One short screen under WooCommerce. Set it once and every product follows, apart from the ratio you choose to override.
| Setting | Options | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Default Aspect Ratio | Auto, 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 | Overridable per product |
| Start playing automatically | On / Off | Requires muted to also be on |
| Start muted | On / Off | Browser rule, not a plugin limit |
| Click to play | On / Off | Recommended for mobile-heavy stores |
| Show Facebook caption | On / Off | Post text below the player |
Built to Not Break
Most product video plugins fail on themes that build their gallery with JavaScript. Version 1.1 waits for the real element instead of hoping it has arrived.
Waits for the Gallery
- A MutationObserver watches for the gallery slide to appear
- Works on themes that build or re-initialise their gallery late
- Replaces the fixed retry timers used in version 1.0
- Stops observing after fifteen seconds instead of watching forever
Safe Saving
- Nonce verification plus an edit_product capability check
- URLs sanitized with esc_url_raw before storage
- Aspect ratio validated against the allowed list
- Clearing the field removes the meta rather than storing an empty value
WooCommerce Native
- Saved through the WooCommerce product object, not raw post meta
- Settings live under the WooCommerce admin menu
- Declares High-Performance Order Storage compatibility
- Existing videos survive the upgrade; the meta key is unchanged
Two Minutes to the First Video
Install and set defaults
- Upload the ZIP through Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin

Add a video to a product
- Open the product and find the Facebook Product Video box
- Paste a public Facebook video or Reel URL
- Override the aspect ratio if that product needs it
- Update, then view the product page to confirm
Frequently Asked Questions
Q:Which Facebook URLs work?
Any public Facebook video or Reel, such as https://www.facebook.com/reel/1234567890 or https://www.facebook.com/yourpage/videos/1234567890/. The video must be public: Facebook will not embed private videos or ones restricted to a limited audience, and those render as an empty player regardless of which plugin you use.
Q:Why does my video not autoplay?
Browsers only permit autoplay when the video is muted, so autoplay takes effect only while the muted setting is also enabled. Some mobile browsers with data-saver mode block it in every case. This is a browser policy rather than something a plugin can override.
Q:Will it slow down my product pages?
The Facebook player is a third-party embed and does carry a cost, which is exactly why click-to-play exists. With it enabled the product photo stays visible and the player is fetched only when a shopper taps play. The plugin's own script and CSS together are under 4 KB and load only on products that have a video.
Q:Does it work with my theme?
It attaches to the standard .woocommerce-product-gallery markup that WooCommerce themes use, and it waits for the gallery to render rather than assuming it is ready. That covers Storefront, Astra, Flatsome, Woodmart and most others. Themes that replace the gallery markup entirely are the exception, and we are happy to look at yours.
Q:Can different products use different video shapes?
Yes. Set a store-wide default, then override the aspect ratio on any individual product from the same box where you paste the URL. Auto mode already distinguishes vertical Reels from landscape page videos without any manual setting.
Q:I was using WC Facebook Product Video. Do I lose my videos?
No. The product meta key is unchanged, so every product that already had a video keeps it after upgrading. Activate the new plugin, check a product page, then deactivate and delete the old one.
